Machining new scope mounts

  Did some work on the air arms 500 hft yesterday. Made a 20 moa picatinny scope mount for it.  It turned out good but very time consuming to make.  I prefer to use quick release rings on guns if i can.  Ended up cutting dovetails in the mount just to try out a new dovetail cutter i bought.  After a quick re zero, the elevation knob was 2 complete turns lower, giving me a lot more adjustment if needed and scope now can be removed and replaced easily.  I wish the manufacturers would just stop using the dovetails all together.  We need more posts in the metal forum.  With winter coming I have more projects to do myself. Thanks Dave,  I sure like the AA 500 hft.  It's a well balance good shooting non-reg gun.  It's always shot good.  I really like a simple good shooting non reg gun.

Ive got a USFT, I shot it with the tube non reged for years. Fill to 1500 shoot it down to 1200. Ive since switched it to reged bottle in .20. Amazing how flat of a shot string it got with the non reged tube...

I made a new rail for my EdGun except when I cut the angle/cant I did it backwards...  Lots of time down the drain right there.

I totally agree with what you said about dovetails on modern airguns.  My rule, if it has a dovetail I keep walking.  Dovetails are so 1800's, it amazes me that any manufacturer still uses them and yet can't tell you what size it really is, which is why no mounts ever work properly.  Really tough to take a manufacturer that does this seriously.  Don't waste your money people...

For five years I have removed my scope from the rail when not shooting the rifle, never had a single issue.  Had more issues with leaving the scope on the rifle actually.

Wish I had that vise... whacks work with hammer...
