First focal plane scopes

hello all
<p style="text-align: right;">let me start by saying I am new to field target. I went to a match and was hooked. I bought an air arms s510fac used on the yellow forum,thanks yellow.  Now looking for a scope in the mid range price trying no stay around the $500 mark   Questions l have are</p>
First focal plane scopes any advantage for HFT and doe anyone have any experience with the optisan 4x16x44 for scope. Thanks all in advance

I'm new here, but a year ago I started shooting field target and went thru the process of selecting the scope, just like you currently going.

Honestly I think SFP scope is better for field target usage, and FFP is better for hunting.

When shooting field target you probably will start at Hunter division, set your scope at 16x and never move it from there. I think SFP scope will also help bracket better.

The most important for me was finding scope that snapped in and out of focus and had nice reticle for hold overs.

I see you have your sights set on optisan 4-16x44. My advise to you is: research if it can range well with parallax adjustment. Because if that focus field is not shallow enough you will struggle to estimate range to target accurately using focus wheel.

Im not really set on the optisan. Just saw a review from a well known air rifle shooter that really liked it.  Yes it is HFT that I will start in and with the new rules allowing scopes to 16x I thought it might be a good choice.  What the utube review didn't allude to was it's focusing ability for range finding since he is a hunter. I haven't seen any comparison between ffp and Sfp scopes in regard to ranging

do you have any suggestions for scopes that range well for under $500

I shoot HFT and am currently using the Aztec scope. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

I can recommend Aztec emerald 5.5-25. I have this scope and love it. It snaps in and out of focus really nice, even on 16x. Reticle is really nice. It has more than 180 degrees of rotation between 10 and 55 yards and you can range with it well. If you ever decide to move to open or WFTF, you can use higher magnification and it tracks great too.

One of the guys that shoots hunter field target has Hawk 4-16x50 that also snapped in and out nicely at 16x and had pretty big rotation of wheel.

Thanks Buckeye airgunner and shutik  I looked at buckeyes ytube review and also Matt Dubber's on the Emerald and must admit for the money it looks great.  I guess one of the most important thing needed in a field target scope is the ability to focus in and out sharply. I have a question for buckeye and that is on a video of yours where you are testing the new pop up target you have an fx rifle with an accushot scope with a side focus comma wheel.  My AA S510 magazine loads from the left side and I will probably need to either modify the Aztec wheel or find another wheel that fits the Aztec. will an accushot comma wheel fit on the Aztec? or is it possible to cut out a portion of the Aztec wheel to access the mag. loading.  thanks

I'm shooting freestyle (or whatever your club calls it).  I don't click, I use holdover and  I use FFP scopes on my two FT rifles.   I like the FFP because I can change the scope power and the holdover is the same regardless of power.
