Considering getting into WFTF looking for opinions

Hi all,

 So I am looking at getting into WFTF and am wondering about rifles. Now keep in mind I really won’t travel or compete at the national level, mostly just futzing around. I would like something I can hunt with and shoot in the basement  and is a bull pup design. Yes I understand they aren’t really made for FT but I’m never going to be an FT world contender either. I don’t mind sending it off to AZ or Joe Korrick for some work on it hence the One of the FX rifles is possible because of that. I’m asking here because I know at least some of you must have run into someone shooting a bull pup at an event and am wondering if it is worth doing.

this might be overkill, but you might want to consider a Thomas carbine.  It’s a bigger investment but can also be used for pistol FT.  They are  incredibly accurate and consistent.  The trigger is match grade.  Barrels can be easily changed.  You’re good for the long haul .

It sounds like you just want to get into field target, not wftf (world field target) which is a strict discipline within field target. This division is not very much like hunting, imho.
Since you're also planning to hunt with your airgun then you probably want to consider hunter division which allows for bipods and seats and has lower scope mag limits (16x). If you go this route then field target is practice for hunting and vice-versa.
 Within any of the divisions, you then have PCP or Springer. There are many spring guns that are very accurate. PCP will tend to be more expensive to get into because of the gun, tank/pump, etc. I tried a Walther LGU last year and did very well with it. Was surprisingly easy to shoot.
If you can go to some FT Matches and try the guns there that would help tremendously. My guess is that one is bound to speak to you.

 Patrick, I would recommend finding nearest club that organizes FT event, contact organizer and go to the event.

Ask if the club has any loan guns for you to shoot.

I've set up this Zbroia Kozak PCP for 12 FPE for WFTF.

I've seen shooters with FX bobcat. Biggest challenge is to make the gun fit you.

That looks like the short version, pretty interesting, how does it handle and did it come under 12ft/lbs? How accurate is it? Would you buy it again is the big question? And anything I buy I would most likely have to change the butt to a MEC anyway.

I really like balance and accuracy.

It came in at 17 FPE with reg set at 130 bar.

I backed out spring all the way and cut coil until I got it to 12 FPE.

So far have about 3k shots thru it. Only complain I have is it's a bit inefficient with air. At 12 FPE I get about 80 shots from 250 bar down to 130 bar.

I've got mine from airgunheaven shop from Netherlands before they were available at Talon Tunes.

There are two distributors in the UK that have power configured to 12 FPE already, pellpax and gunstar.

Although there is probably someone out there, I don't know anyone shooting FT that only has one AG. Get a FT gun and a hunting gun and move on to shooting. "Just sayin."

I think you meant a FT rifle, a back up FT rifle, a hunting rifle....oh and a field target pistol also.

You should seriously consider a BROCOCK

AOA has them on sale - 3 position power dial ... in .177 it will shoot at 12ft lbs in low power 15 ft lbs Medium power and 20ft lbs on high.

Should cover all your bases - with a 10 shot magazine for hunting or a single shot adapter for FT competitions.

Best bang for your buck right now bar none IMOP.

If you want to really do it on a low budget and still knock down a lot of targets, then the Crosman 1720T pistol made into a carbine is the way to go. The Marauder Pistol comes with a carbine kit that will fit the 1720T.  Set up at about 11fpe, it only gets about 20 really good shots, but they ARE really good shots.  The barrels are super on these low cost pistols, and the trigger can be adjusted to break fairly well.  We have one setup and it can compete on the rifle field target course pretty well (70 to 90% in the right hands on a 30 T course).  It's not a Thomas, but it's about 10% of the price too.. Just think if you do half as good as a Thomas at the same match, you really beat the Thomas:-)  And you have a 90% chance of beating the Thomas on the Pistol Field Target course.

Just found out that Joe Broncato is the official distributor for Zbroia, as well as warranty and parts center. I've ordered extra barrel from. Great positive experience.

Thanks for the info, I just dropped him a line. He said he would have some in soon. Of course I’m looking for a 550/220 to buy, larger air reservoir and I’ll only have to buy a new butt for it, probably an Anschutz or a G&H. Not sure yet. I’ll know more later after I talk to Joe. Thanks again
