Air Gun Shooters,
The March 24, 2018 match was the sixth of six CCR&P Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Matches of the 2017-18 season. The match went well with seventeen air gunners making the trip. The indoor range temperature started out at 40 degrees at 9:00 a.m. and at match end was around 48 degrees.
We had goodies. Carole and Dave Brown came with brownies, cookies and hot beverages. Sue and JD came with cupcakes. Thank you.
The February Top Springer, Tim Wilson, was not available so no “Mini Spring” Award was given nor did the Super Spring sit on a bench.
Ron Yatso was presented with a “Mini Cuspidor’ Award for winning the February 2018 match with a score of 1,000-83x. Ron was given the “Golden Cuspidor” to sit on his bench during the match to show that he was last month’s winner.
A couple of our shooters (the Newly Weds - Sue & JD) forgot all of their shooting rests and had to borrow that gear from other shooters, but were still able to compete today. It makes you You wonder what they had their mind on 😉 Thank you shooters for giving a helping hand.
We did have a shooter shoot a pellet that was in backwards. The pellet struck a bullseye that already had a hit, thus changing a score of 10 to a 4. I won’t say who did this but his initials are JC. Rumor has it, that Dave Brown will try to show the shooter what end is up. Good luck.
We were fortunate to have scoring during the match by John Mickel with Carole Brown recording the scores. George Sharrett came before the match ended and also did some scoring. After the match, Dave Zinski and Ron Yatso also scored. Marvelous job everyone.
There were four tied scores and some close scores between shooters. There were ten scores of over 990s. That is 58.8% of the shooters that finish and/or turned in targets. When scores are tied the placement/ranking is decided by “x” count.
There were 23 perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match by nine different shooters. There was one perfect score of 250-25x by Joe Attwood. Nice going. The 250 scores were shot by Joe Attwood, Ron Price, Tom Dangelo, Dave Zinski, Kim Czapiewski, Ron Yatso, John Parrish, Steve Parks, and John Calhoun. Excellent shooting.
There was a two way tie for Match Winner between Joe Attwood and Ron Price who both shot a 1,000. The ‘x’ count decided the winner. Ron Price had 84x to Joe Attwood’s 92x making Joe Attwood the Match Winner with Ron Price being First Place PCP. There was a tie for Second Place PCP between Tom Dangelo and Dave Zinski who both shot a 999. Tom took Second Place PCP with his 80x to Dave’s 79x giving Third Place PCP to Dave Zinski.
Joe Attwood’s 92x set a new record breaking the old record of 87x set by Ron Price at the January 2018 match. Incredible shooting. Never thought the “x” count would get this high.
The Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest 2017-18 has been quite a season. All the Matches this Season have been won with a score of 1,000. There has been ten (10) 1,000 scores shot this Season. The “x” count record has been broken three times, twice by Joe Attwood and once by Ron Price. The Thomas Air Rifle is being favored by the winners. There were five (5) Thomas Air Rifles used by the top seven shooters at this match. Equipment sure has been upgraded this Season. What will we have next Season. Will there be another new air rifle on the market?
In the Springer Class Bob Wilgus took First Place Springer with a 988-45x. Second Place Springer went to Harvey Gertson with a 973-30x. Harvey tried out some different pellets for this match. He used JSB Straton (pointed) 8.26 gr. pellets. They shot fairly well but not good enough for this competition.
Equipment:
Joe Attwood, shot a Thomas with JSB monster pellets. Ron Price used a Thomas with JSB monster pellets at 805 fps. Tom Dangelo used a Thomas with JSB pellets at 805 fps. Dave Zinski used a FWB 800 FT with JSB pellets at 800 fps.
Bob Wilgus shot a FWB 300S with JSB RS 7.33 gr. pellets at 600 fps. Harvey Gertson shot an FBW 300 Tyrolean using JSB Straton (pointed) 8.26 gr. pellets at unknown fps.
Thank you shooters for coming to the Indoor Matches this Season.
The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match will be on October 20, 2018 (3rd Saturday). Joe Attwood will be the “Golden Cuspidor” holder at this match. Bob Wilgus will be the holder of the “Super Spring” at this match.
See you in the Fall.
