Ruger Impact Tune Help

   A friend brought over a .22 Ruger Impact for me to set up with a scope. Would like to do a quick and dirty relube as well. Don't have a lot of time as he leaves tomorrow.

   This rifle seems to be a clone of an RWS 34 - albeit a lot rougher. My question is whether it takes down like a 34 and if there are any peculiarities that need to be addressed. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think if you consider it as a 34 you would be fine and it was, a what 100 buck gun, there has to be some corners cut but which ones I couldn't say

In years past, the 'mostly' 34 clone was the Ruger Airhawk.  So, did they change the name or the rifle?  I don't know--I tuned a total of one Airhawk and that was it.  Lots of real 34's, though.

I suppose  your friend already left and  the topic  is no longer in question.

To many variables  such as a small C  clip now  missing in action because  it  went flying  during removal or who knows what.

I lean heavily  on Murphy's  law " and try not to give purphy  an opportunity LOL 

Yes it takes down like a 34.  I had one and tuned it.  Smoothed out the shot cycle and still couldn't do better than coke can accuracy at ten yards.  If your friend cn return it and get his money back now is the time.  I took mine apart and threw it in the trash to keep someone else from dealing with it.

 Got er done and it was an adventure in cheap rifle construction. It is imported by Umarex for Ruger and the same rifle has carried three different Ruger model names. It is a real piece of junk on the inside. Had to make a special block to fit the tube and go under the safety. Of course, it torqued and the end cap safety mess and various shims and other trigger innards were launched into the stratosphere. The downward trajectory smashed them into the far end of the deck where I was working at a terminal velocity probably exceeding that of a pellet from the muzzle. Of course (again), a spring and two shims decided to race each other to see which would be the first to fall through cracks between deck planks. Can you say @*&$! Or "lets fish with a magnet" . Or, finally, " gee, wonder how long it will take to remove two perfectly good boards to recover .25 cents worth of parts"?

So the rifle is cracked open. The spring looked fine and the snug-fitting, synthetic guide got a trim around both ends where wings of plastic extruded. Want to lube the piston, but the pin holding the linked cocking arm made of thin folded refused to be easily removed. But it wasn't honking -  good enough. Now clean the interior bits, a little lube and black tar - and, using all three of my hands plus one black lab to retrieve flying parts, put it back together.

Scoping, which was the original promise, went fine using a plumbline and brilliant leveling tool from Brownells. the rifle gained 25 fps velocity (to a whopping 600 fps) with a thud rather than spring screech. After 40 shots to reseason the squeaky clean barrel, it shot 1" @ 25 with the occasional flier. Once again good enough for its intended purpose shooting at the top of squirrel trees. 

Anyway, thanks to all for the advice and encouragement. Did I mention a beer and cig? Always smoke after s..pring gun tuning.

"Piece of junk".  May I assume that yours is like the one I tuned, and says "Made In China" somewhere on the rifle?  That usually explains a lot in the way of 'less-than' quality and precision. 

I've always assumed that soldiers in the field from other countries "shooting Chinese-made AK-47's", were probably at quite a disadvantage.  If their air gun production and QC is any indication, if 'something (usually) comes out of the end of the barrel and goes somewhere when you pull the trigger', the factory inspection guy says, "Passed".  (I know there are some good products from China, seemingly more so in the past 10 years or so .  Cheap spring-piston guns just don't seem to be one of them).  (Admittedly, I'm jaded from such past experiences).

Your sense of humor is more than adequate, and all things considered, I'm thinking you might not have been able to do the job without it.  A wise acquaintance once told me, about an unrelated field of endeavor, "Keep that sense of humor of yours nearby.  You're going to be needing it"--your comments about the boards and the dog are funny.

So, is that 25 yards or 25 feet?  Either is fine considering what you started with--just wondering.  I'm 99% sure that I had to resurface the barrel crown on the one I tuned to get the accuracy in the general ballpark.  You can't do much about a barrel with a bad bore/rifling, though.

@c_m_shooter coke can @ 10 yards isn't because the Ruger can't shoot, more like an operator error. my son can plink targets the size of quarters at 27 yards. my brother has the exact same rifle an he kills duck an squirrels with it all the time. for the price it's not a bad toy. ya might Wana work on you aim a lil is what it sounds like
