Quiet Thingy Adapted to Hatsan Velox

I acquired a Hatsan Velox a few months back and was impressed with the value. It has a threaded muzzle, and always needing a project on the burner, I knew an adapter for my quiet thingy was a candidate.

It had a clamp-on end piece for a Benjamin PRod barrel.

I used Designspark Mechanical to eliminate the clamp and add an internal thread for a 1/2 X 20 helicoil insert.

It took two iterations to get the hole sized correctly to accept the insert, the third on the right being the final print.

No baffle strikes and it brings the noise down to a level that exceeded my expectations. 🍻 

I was using two screws 180 degrees apart to hold both end caps in place. I photoshoped them out of the pictures because this is a prototype and they don't look nice. The tube failed at the  frontend cap, at the print layer where the screws were drilled.

I ground the end flat and epoxied the endcap on with JB Weld, reassembled and then tested some more. You can see the thin grey line of epoxy.

The front cap held but the failure repeated itself, the baffle tube also failed at the rear cap, at the print layer where the screw holes were drilled. The ring behind the screws is part of the baffle tube.

I'm going to repeat the repair with JB Weld, reassemble and test. I ran out of JB Weld and time. The unit will be sealed which I don't like; I won't be able to dissemble, clean and modify but I want to see if the design can withstand the pressure. If it withstands the pressure, I'll make design modifications to the wall thickness to accommodate screws without failing. 

I admit I don't know squat about 3D printing, but could you make both ends threaded for access?

Yes, but I don't like the plastic threads. I may consider it if the tube withstands the pressure when epoxied.

I have a Benjamin Recharge air compressor with very little use, and I'm happy with its performance but I noticed water under it a long while ago and found this upon disassembly. Being extremely busy, shooting rimfire almost exclusively for the last two years and having a long list of projects it ended up in the farthest corner of the closet for quite a while. To Crosman/Benjamin's credit, after this long time period has passed I believe we have a solution worked out for the part with probably just a small shipping fee.

I had aired up my tanks before the reservoir cracked and wasn't shooting HPA much so having finally run out of air and wanting to test the Hatsan I came up with this work-around which worked well; the cylinder temperature never exceeding 68 C. Silicone tubing, some plastic fittings and the throw-away Tupperware that nobody throws away.

The Supp held up after many mag dumps with the end caps epoxied on but the POI was 4" to the right @ 5M, pretty severe. I just bore scoped it and there was striking on one baffle in the middle but all else performed great. The tube will hold the pressure, I ran it at max PSI and the helicoil seems to work great adding strength at a critical area, I removed it several times and reattached. I think Ill open up the baffle bores to .3 and try again, this pistol is just too loud to shoot in the backyard without a QT.
