HW97K Power Level

Hi,

I just bought a 97K blue laminate from Krale. Is there any way besides a chronograph or disassembly to tell if I received a 12 or 16 ft. lb. gun? By serial number perhaps? Thanks, Joe.

Joe, did you specify one or another? Krale gives you the option to pick between the two when you order. Or are you trying to confirm the one you received is the one you wanted? Sorry, I’m only asking questions and offering no answers!

There was no choice when I ordered mine. Wondering if when one or the other version goes out of stock, the choice goes away rather than greying out? The blue laminate went completely out of stock shortly after I ordered mine, which was a few weeks ago. I can email Krale but was just curious if they use a different serial number series to distinguish. 

Edit - Invoice doesn't say. Besides the model and caliber, it only says #29 in parens. Don't know if that means anything. 

Just checked again. Blue laminate is back in stock, price went up and no choice of power level. Under the specifications tab it says 14.7 ftlbs.  So I guess blue laminate only comes with the higher power spring. Interesting.

well if you check all the 97's they sell are the same in power 20 joule and if you go to the Weihrauch web site you would see the same thing and if it was a low power rifle it would be marked with a F

and if I ever had a question about the item I just bought I would have contacted the seller first I'm thinking

On the Krale website, the regular wood-stocked version of the 97K has a choice of 16 or 20 joules in .177.

If Weihrauch only makes 20 joule guns, then Krale (and all other vendors) would have to change the spring to make 16 joule rifles. Seems unlikely, but maybe that's what they do.

Cool, thanks Domingo. Pretty sure it is 20 joules based on what the Krale website says, but playing with a ballistic pendulum sounds interesting. Be neat to confirm 20 using a pendulum. I may eventually get a chrono, but more for experimenting with the the Marauder I also have.

Figuring your scope is about 1.75 inches above the bore, if you are using the JSB 8.44's here is what you do.

Site the gun to hit dead on at 25yds. Then move back to 60 yds and see where it is hitting. If it is about 3.5" low then you have the 16ftlb version, if it's 5" low then you have the 12ftlb.

This is based on a BC of .026 and MV of 800 for 12ftlb and 900 for the 16ftlb.

The 97 and R7 make a great contrasting pair. 

Put the first shots through it yesterday and it's unexpectedly smooth and quiet.

Just getting it initially sighted in at 8 yards in my backyard - RWS Superdomes all going in one hole.

I have been interested in the 97 for some time, but didn't want to spring for $700. I recently found out about Krale, and got the gun for under $500 delivered. Shipped on a Monday, it arrived in San Diego on Wednesday. Unfortunately the UPS driver delivered it to the wrong address and I didn't get it until the following Monday. I should have had UPS hold it at their distribution center like I usually do for expensive items, but it arrived so fast I was caught off guard. I spent 4 days wondering if someone was messing around with my gun, but all was well when I finally got it.

BTW, for now it's wearing a UTG 3-12x40 on a UTG 1-piece medium height mount.

I had to shim it using 3 pieces of soda can aluminum in each ring to clear the barrel and cut the bottom off the scope cap.
