Gamo Compact VS. Weihrauch HW75

Just received a pristine condition "New to me" 177 Gamo Compact which is a discontinued model which has been updated to the Air Venturi V10 now currently sold at most big retailers, it is the third one in my collection and it cocks easier than the HW75. It is a good candidate for an all day shooting pistol with no fatigue or stress from cocking (like my Beeman P17s which I am unable to shoot all day long due to the effort required to cock them and the loud pop it makes when shot).

I don't like the entire upper half of the Gamo Compact (and Air Venturi V10) are made of plastic. One of mine has a crack in it from use and I expect it to be non functional when it completely cracks. I don't like the triggers and the overlever release button/catch are made out of plastic as well. I bought it because eventually one of mine will be non useable due to the plastic cracking with age and use. I don't think it is made of ballistic polymer but plain old plastic.

Accuracy is typical of these entry level 10 meter pistols in the $200 used price range that can cloverleaf to single one hole groups at 10 meters all day long if you are up to it.

There are no provisions for an optical sight or red dot unless you drill out the plastic and mount a rail but that will weaken the structural integrity of the plastic top portion of the pistol.

Factory spec. states 400fps which is only 10fps slower than the HW75 but the effort to cock the Gamo Compact is significantly less than the HW75.

I took a handful of plinking shots at bottle caps at 15 and 20 yards and no problems hitting them consistently using Crosman Super Match Wadcutters and RWS Meisterkugeln wadcutters.

Trigger is not as crisp and light as on the HW75 and feels a little better than the Beeman P17 out of the box.

If you can find one at a good deal it would be worth it if you want an accurate target pistol to plink all day long but be mindful the top portion where you exert pressure to cock it on the closing stroke is plastic.

I think the HW75 is worth twice the cost of the Gamo Compact or Air Venturi V10.

There is a night and day difference in build quality between the German and Spanish pistols.

The Gamo made pistols can hold their own against more expensive target pistols IMHO.

I surely can't say that about many other GAMO guns I have shot though...

Tried a friends HW75 and I felt the sight picture/plane presented too high in my hand.  The HW felt very well made for sure.  By comparison the Compact & V10's sights are closer to the web of your hand and I just felt I shot the V10 better.  If you want to go lower, try a FAS604 or 6004.  It sits the lowest in your hand of any AP I've tried.

I'm a long-time fan of the Gamo Compact.  I've owned a few over the years, and they always rewarded me. But I have to say, I'm a pretty lousy handgun shooter.  I was glad to see them resurrected in the V10.  I'm a little surprised by your critique of the trigger.  With minimal fussing, the Compact trigger can be made very serviceable.   Likewise the P17 trigger, which can easily be tweaked to near match function.  I sold my Compacts, but still own and love my P17.  Just last weekend at Findlay, I narrowly passed on a fine looking silver and black Webley Nemesis, which is another SSP pistol I am eager to try.

But for the money, in the SSP pistol category, a P17 is hard to beat.  For $35, EVERYONE should own one. What have you got to lose, besides $35?

I have to agree the P17s can't be beat for the money and everyone should have one in their collection.

I just have a difficult time shooting it all day long due to the effort to close the over lever and the moderate pop when fired.

HA, are you sure that's black and silver? Kind of looks to me like it may just be the way the light is reflecting off of the blister pack. And the Beeman/Marksman website doesn't show a two tone P17 Deluxe, just the black one.

Ordered. More curious about the color. Looks like another trigger tune is in my future. ?

so the Compact trigger assembly, there isn't a lot to do in there but one thing that will 

so the the trigger travels about 1.7mm + or - before it start to push on anything, so cut a piece of something urethane, hard rubber doesn't matter 

and put it between the horseshoe part of the trigger and the intersecting pin and put a small piece of tape on it reinstall clear cover and grips 

you now have removed the trigger take up, if you don't like it, you know how to fix it 

and is the Hw 75 better then the Compact sure, is the HW75 better then the FAS 6004 that is a different question and it is close to a tie 

but this isn't a race it is about owning different brands and enjoying all of them, hell after reworking a 747 trigger it can be as good as any of them 

but i think most that own many SSP pistol they are all easier to cock then the P17 mine is a pain, my HW 40 is a sweet heart compared 

do the Compact trigger and see what you think

If you really want a modest cost, true Match gun, look at the Chiappa/FAS 6004

It needs just a little TLC and it can be a shoot-all-day pistol.

Not a powerhouse, but then you would need to get into the old FWB's to get more than 350 fps from an SSP.

I installed a rifle scope onto my HW75 and as seen on the other thread got 10 shot groups like this at 25 yards which can only be compared to shooting my FWB80 and FWB75 and Beeman 800 (Diana model6) I have a couple of Diana 10 pistols but has been a long time since I shot them and haven't specifically tried groupings at 25 yards to be able to comment. Too bad the Gamo Compact or Air Venturi V10 does not have provision for a scope, otherwise I would have tried.

The one low shot is not part of the group, it was the aim point for the group. Eight out of the ten in a very tight group and 2 got away.

7.4gr Crosman Premier pointed straight out of the tin 10 shot group at 25 yards.

The only pistol I have in this price point that will outshoot the HW75 is my Crosman 1701P.
