Cheap plastic airguns

I just got back from the local flea market, where I scored a minty Daisy 880 in brown plastic, and an almost full 6000-count container of Daisy silver BBs, all for $20.  I've never owned an 880 before, but this one looks to be nearly brand new.  Looking forward to playing with this "classic."

So, I gotta say.  I had a Daisy 5899 target peep sight laying around.  To make it work, I needed to add a front post to get the right height.  A little drill and tap into the front sight, and Voila!  With a match peep, this little plastic gun is REMARKABLY accurate at 7M in the basement, shooting RWS Basic 7G wadcutters.  Who knew?  Even shooting unsupported, I can put pellet after pellet into the same hole.  The trigger is evil, but consistent.  This just confirms my belief that any sh!tty gun can be dramatically improved by a good sighting system.

The cheapo clamshell pumpers often shoot remarkably well, especially given the price, construction and trigger quality...they just don't inspire much confidence or pride of ownership.

They can, however, be  sleepers of the first water, capable of shocking owners of  MUCH more expensive airguns.

When I was growing up the Daisy 880 was the 'Holy Grail' of the KMart line.  The 760 falls short in that as a child, it was harder to pump.   I've taken many small game with an 880 and destroyed several of them by making 'air shotguns' by pouring salt or sand down in the barrel to shoot at bugs with them.  

I ended up getting on for nostalgic purposes but it leaks like a sieve.  I tried to repair it, unsuccessfully.  Still, they are fun and as others have mentioned, will surprise you given the price point.

I have a new version from Walmart and it shoots like a target rifle with RWS Supermags.

What became of it?   For $12 and shipping you can get a new valve,pressure tube and rifled barrel.

And as far as the trigger, there's a little silver flat piece that can be removed, that will make it better. You can go further and stone the contact surfaces a bit.  jmho

Now we're talking!  That is a nice looking 922!

Pleasantly surprised by the super-cheap Daisy 880, at least with pellets (not so thrilled with BB's or lead ball).

Considering old-man eyes and the issue open sights, it doesn't do too badly.  Been keeping it as an iron sight rifle, likely will continue as it's stayed put and on target for the last two years (although getting it sighted in was a ping-pong match).

The 880 has a rifled barrel. I just bought a new 880 valve,pressure tube and barrel and put it in a Daisy 35.

Those parts come as one unit,one part number.

Found the mods online. You have to trim a couple of inches off the new barrel to fit the shroud. (35's were a bit shorter). I did have to swap the pressure tube,no biggie

It now has a LDC and the Tasco 3-7x20 scope does wonders for my eyes.
