308 Texan Hold

Just started shooting this thing and I'm new to Big bores but not to cast  bullets. Many have complained about the barrel harmonics and having to go to Mad Dog stocks and adding Barrel resonators and such. This is shooting at 50 yards and I am just starting with only one bullet so I'm not saying this is Magic. the upper group is off of a rest and the lower group is me shooting from the kneeling position.

I noticed a similar tendency when shooting it held like a spring gun is opposed to off the bags.

I'm sure haven't figured it all out yet but I thought this was interesting. Both groups were shot from the same starting fill pressure

there's a lot more chat with the .45.  anyway you are going to have to find a bullet, or a bullet plus sizing, that agrees with the harmonics of the barrel.  the AF line is its own animal that's for sure.  i would also try adjusting the bench rest position every possible way.

 There are tricks to shooting off a rest and getting consistent grouping. I shoot rim fire br- doesn't take much to blow a shot.  Alist of some common areas:

grip , shoulder, cheek weld,  trigger control, sights ( staring to long eye goes dry)  where the front rest is on the forearm,  alignment of gun to rest vs target, to name a few.

I have shot low velocity cast bullet br on and off  for 25 years and yes it doesnt take much to blow a shot.im pretty confident of my BR skills.this thing is a different animal though.

Ive got 40 plus 30 cal molds,sizing dies as well as bump/taper dies to get various bullets to fit the throat of the gun.its been interesting but fun so far

Tried the rcbs 180 sp today.much better accuracy at 50 yards.most groups in 1" range with many shots touching.gotta really concentrate with the hold though to get good groups.
