Washing Pellets

I used to wash pellets, but stopped after awhile and after reading about the stuff that coats them being there to help with oxidization. Well, I've been going through a tin of 500 chps at a time with this big cat, so I'm gonna try this again and see if there's any difference. Plus, going through so many at one time makes the tip of my finger raw and coats it with a thick layer of that black stuff. If anything it will help with all the small bits and pieces of flashings that are stuck in the skirts and around some pellets...

in the washing instructions i read the guy added somthin when he was done washing to stop oxidation.
i can't remember where i saw it.
i'll be washing before installing the bullet lube.

I believe it was pledge. If you shoot a lot though, I doubt you'd have to worry about oxidization.

In .177 are the only pellet I have to wash #1 it helped a lot with accuracy #2 help to keep my fingers clean. I wash 2-3 hundred in soapy water then dry them well then a lite coat of pledge I use the orange kind it smells nicer:D I bought a cheep colander and you would not believe the crap that come off them. Lead slivers and some black crap .:thumb:

is it nessessary to put pledge on the pellets? i'm actally quite intrested in trying this cause my last tin of cphp are really dirty

I don't use anything on mine, but then again I usually go through 500 pellets within about 2 hours...

wow, how about a tin in like a month?

ok, washed mine today, and i got to say, i got a lot, and i mean a lot of junk off, but i'm still not pleased with my last batch. i find that some of the seams are bigger (you can clearly see that some of the lead came out of the mold when they made them) and the bottoms are thick as everything

Never thought of washing them, might have to try that.

I still sometimes wash mine too. AMAZING how much NASTY shit comes out of them cphp,s!!:mad: I lube them: I use a cphp tin,, the one that comes with the 2 foam inserts. I spray a SMALL amount of Balistol on the foam inserts,,put about 50 DRY clean pellets in & GENTY hand "tumble" them inside the tin for a minute or so to evenly distribute the lube. Balistol is VERY inert & will not cause any dieseling or detonation issues. Clean pellets,,less messy fingers,,, no oxidation.:thumb: Works for me. Tim.

i might have to try this. my cphps do seem dirty as all hell and turn the tips of my fingers completely black after 25 shots or so. anybody experience better accuracy after washing the pellets?

I always wash all of my pellets with 99% isopropyl alcohol (70% has 30% water).
Stay away from furniture polishes and other things with water in them if you want
to keep them shiny. I lubricate with Slick 50 one lube.

I also weigh all pellets that go through my guns. I found that my accuracy goes way
up and it almost eliminates fliers.

cool, yeah. i washed my cphps yesterday with dish soap and water.. lots of black grime and lead flakes came off, then dried and lubed em... they seem to produce much more reliable results on paper now with far fewer floaters... now, to wash the benjamin discovery hollowpoints i have... they seem to be exactly the same as the cphps, btw.

I gonna wash out one of my small tins..so whats the best lube to use after a wash? will this result in better groups/accuracy?

i have been messin round with powdered moly bendium disulfied.
i have also been messin with slick 50 one lube and allox.
i have some liquid teflon that i may try as well.

I had some stuff i wanted to try out..Its made by TRI-LUBE..its a dry lube made for bicycle chains and gears..

give it a try, i don't think you will hurt anything.
coat a few pellets with a little bit and see what you get.
you want to be sure whatever you use is non-flammable/non-combustible.

I think im gonna give it a try either later today or tomorrow on my Beeman hollows..i'll let you guys know if there happens to be a difference..or if i notice anything at all.

Ok i took a look at the bottle..its combustable.

if you use it use very little, like wet a paper towel with a little and then roll the pellets around on it.
you want a very thin coat, so you almost can't tell it's there.
if she sounds like a rimfire when you shoot then don't use it.
