anybody actually used these to hunt that can elaborate on their expansion? they can't be compared too closely with polymags because the polymer tip actually goes back into the pellet, but they prolly expand similarly. they are damn accurate out of this big cat, so i'll use them no matter what, but there seems to be a lack of info on their performance on the net

If these are the ones I'm thinking (the new gamo ones that look like predators) then they should be pretty good (if they work like the predators). If they're accurate in your gun then you have yourself a good hunting pellet. I have used predators before and they expand and do lots of damage, but unfortunately not too many of my guns liked them.

they seemed to not work in this big cat, but come to find out its just really hold sensitive. if i can get a close enough picture i'll post some pics of what they look like after being shot into water. shooting them through a cardboard box yesterday, i noticed that once they entered the box the plastic tips came out and got lodged in the other side of the inside, so they must work like they're supposed to

Yeah as long as the tips have something solid to hit up against (like bone) they usually expand quite well...

found this after some digging. these might be my hunting pellet if the accuracy they showed yesterday wasn't just a fluke. half the price of polymags for 50 less isn't too bad either, although still lofty for pellets

a little experiment shooting these into full water bottles. the 2 that were shot into a 20 oz bottle didn't pass through, neither did the one shot into a plastic mayo jar full of water which means these things transfer their energy pretty well. sorry for the crappy quality, i had to use my cell phone but figured they were good enough to get an idea from. funny thing about these pellets is they have almost the same poi as cphp's

I frequently shoot 1 gallon milk jugs filler with water to judge AG and pellet performance. Been thinking of filling one up with Jell-o, just to see what happens.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

thats actually how i've been testing pellets recently. crosman pointed went right through a milk jug and a milk carton filled with water and rested on the grass right behind them, with minimal deformation. cphp's went through a 20oz bottle and bounced off the one behind it and showed some decent expansion. still haven't shot a rocket into anything though, maybe tomorrow. jello would probably be a bit more realistic since its more dense than water, and way tastier!

I'll probably try to buy some spare pork meat and shoot it sometime at different yardages to see if CPHP's mushrooms well. Sorry guys, CPHP's are the only reasonable pellet I can buy on the nearest walmart. :D Better yet let a member with assorted pellets try it for us. The info would be great for the library. :thumb: :cheers:

Saw a pellet comparison somewhere, the guy used a bar of soap. I dont know what kind of soap it was but it was kind of transparent, surely it was a girly soap.;)

ST, funny you should mention cphp's mushrooming. just picked up a new tin yesterday after the 3 year old tin laying around finally emptied out. they must have changed the design between now and then cause the tips have a much larger hole. shooting at a 20oz bottle of water showed some excellent mushrooming. shooting meat would be interesting though.

lampy, i believe you're thinking of the article on pyramyd where he shot nutrogena(sp?). its too bad he was really only testing penetration, it would have been nice if he'd used more than 3 types of pellet.

Sorry been bowhunting too much to play with my airguns, but... Shooting CPHPS, Polymags , Destroyers or anything else, I have yet to get a pellet to actually expand. I shoot 2 liter pop bottles at 35 yards. The cphp's pass through completely most of the time. The polymags poke the tip out the other side, but no expansion.

The most I get is the pellet collapsing on itself at the waist, but no expansion. I think they need to be either much softer, or driven at a much higher velocity (900-950 is what I get) to get some expansion. However the both, the polymags and, cphp's deliver ALOT of SHOCK on furbearing targets in real life!

Try Neutrogena soap. It's translucent and has the consistency of hard muscle (weightlifter hard). Soap is a good idea for testing the ammo.:thumb:
