Just say no to domed pellets!

For me anyway, domes just don't seem to shoot all that great in my Gamo Whisper (tuned).

I got a sampler pack from Craigfperry of a bunch of different pellets and the domes were marginal at best. This is typical of my rifle, so I am not blaming him or anything.

Once I can get a digital camera handy I will post the pics of the targets. I'll have eleven targets to show you.

how many shots do you have thru er since the tune?

Yeah it's strange how that works. My big cat only likes domes and I've had others that prefer nothing but domes, but I have also had rifles that just hated them all. Having an assortment of pellets handy is always good for that reason...

What's the best you've done with your whisper (distance, group size and pellets)? The reason I ask is because when I had a whisper, I found it to be extremely picky as well and it took some time and messing around to figure her out. Mine wasn't tuned but I could keep 4 out of 5 pellets within 1/4" once I figured it out...

the best group so far has been the size of my pinky nail at 11yards in the basement. I tried going to a couple different ranges this weekend for some better distances but all of them had terrible benches (uneven feet) and one place actually had the air duct fan blowing on the back of my head the whole time!

My RWS 34 doesn't seem to like the domed pellets at a distance. I've shot superdomes, JSB exact diablos, CPH's, CPL's, and CPHP's. and the RWS magnum (wadcutter) out shoots all of them. I haven't put any predators or crow mags through it yet. It seems to group pretty tight with the crosman pellets until I get out to 30 yards or so and then they fall on their ass. The wadcutters hit my steel spinners with authority.

run some cheap lead thru er(250 or 500) then try the sampler again,

for me pointed pellets are absolutely terrible (in the gamo, not my pumper), especially the predators and premier pointeds.

averaged out: domes shoot a bit better, hollow points are pretty damn good, and H&N match are the cake.

the H&N Match are sweet.
the Field Target Specials are sweet in all my stuff.

i forgot to tell you to pull a couple dry patches thru an see what comes out.

I ran patches through when I first got it, it was pretty dirty.

I figured since cleaning was part of the tune I shouldn't have to do anything for quite awhile.

it won't hurt just to see.
