Help on Crosman Pellets

I have a couple of questions related to Crosman Premier .22, 14.3gr Domed pellets.
Why do the containers of 500 cost around $9.00 and the 625 boxes cost around $26.00? Are they not the same pellet?

I bought a Benjamin Discovery Ultimate Hunting Assortment pack of four kinds of pellets (all 14.3gr) included are hollow point, domed magnum, super point and pointed expanding. The domed magnum shoot exceptionally well but when I search for them all I find is the domed not the domed magnum. When I called Crosman I didn’t get a definitive answer from them on if the domed and the domed magnum are the same. Does anyone know if these are in fact the same?

are indeed the same pellets... well, mostly...

If you look real close at the picture of the 500ct tin, you will see the name "Ultra Magnum" (there is a better pic here: http://www.crosman.com/gear/ammo/LDP22 and yes, these are the only domed .22 pellets Crosman makes). The difference in the two is that all of the pellets in the 625 count box come from the same run and therefore they should be very consistent weight and size wise.

The pellets in the tins may or may not be from the same run, and in fact may contain pieces from several different runs. Therefore, they might not have the consistency of the "box" pellets.

Honestly, I don't know of anyone who buys .22 Ultra Mags in boxes. However, in .177 the box pellets are very popular -- and much more economical. (Not to mention that it is the only way that you can get the 7.9gr Crosman Domed pellets.)

My M-Rod shoots the hollow Points ok but really likes the brown box domed.;)

Ahab - That's exactly what I'm finding. The hollow points shoot great but I shrink my group even further with the domed. Business took me by AOA today and I picked up three containers of 500 each of the domed. Just got back from playing and shot a .274 inch group at 30 yrds. That suits me just fine.

However, I'm having trouble finding a heavy side pellet that shoots well.

While both models are the same style of pellet, the 022DB's are made with a different type of dye that provides a cleaner and more consistent pellet than the LDP22. While both would do quite well in pest control and small game hunting the 022DB pellets are better for .22 cal field target trials.

In case you don't know, the 022DB are the pellets that come in the box of 625ct.

My thanks to the great customer service folks at Crosman. In my limited experience they really do a great job.

Thanks for sharing that nomad :thumb: I was not aware of that difference (and I was not aware die was spelled "dye"). Their customer service, especially their willingness to sell parts directly to their customers, is the greatest of many reasons that I love Crosman.

You're right West Texas, I missed that. Die is spelled die. LOL Oh well, while it was copied and pasted I have done much worse. Much, much worse and I really do appreciate their great CS.

Thanks for the info, nomad. I buy the boxed .22s and they shoot better for me, too, in most guns. Now I feel even better about spending the extra for them. :rockon:

Just seems pricy to spend $26 for 625 until you figure most others are $12 to $14 for 200 od 250. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and give some a try. I have read that they do come from a special die and the same lot so consistency should be the same.

You may want to give these pellets a try. I've been shooting the wadcutters in my Weihrauch .22 and have found them to be remarkably accurate. I haven't tried the domed pellets, but if they work as well as the wadcutters, the price is a plus. RC

Thanks RC. I have one of the .22 Marauders that is picky on what it likes. It shoots really well but only with the 14.3 Crosman Domed or HP. I have not yet bought the 14.3 in the brown box as I was stocked up on the tins. However, I buy mine from AOA and they sell a tins of 500 for $7.65 which makes them a bit more affordable.

I am trying the Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum .177 Cal, 10.5 Grains, I have been using Crosman destroyers. Immediately I noticed the difference when loading them very tight compared to destroyer pellets.

Is this normal.

Something new since I asked about the pellet fit question.

Opinions needed, I have now heard that using of the 10.5 grain pellet will wear spring out prematurely and to use them sparingly.

Well compared to many I am a definitely a rookie at this stuff, but how do you switch from one pellet to another to use it sparingly. Browsing through forum I have read each pellet change means resighting scope etc. (makes sense) I thought and then bought 1000 ultra mags for new Gamo Stalker and thought it would be beneficial and actually more efficient to use just one size pellet (only one).

I have a Whisper and a Quest that have pretty much strictly been on the destroyer diet.

The Quest is at least 5 yrs old and probably does not have 1000 pellets shot through it, purchased strictly for pest problem and did/does a very good job.

Next chapter, I tried out the ultra mags in all 3 rifles and they are snug loading in all 3, one pellet when forcing it down actually had the lip bend so I did get it out and decided the 10.5s are not for me. I would rather not have to force pellets in.

The destroyer pellets drop right in, I'm thinking of crosman premiere lights they sound like a pellet to investigate.
