Has anyone ever tried the Red fire pellets? I seen that they were in the newest RedHead book (BassPro) Has anyone even heard of these besides me?

They just look a nock off version of the Predators, do they not? They weigh 8 grains, so there's no problem with my springer,,,As were the Predators are $12 for 150 these redfires are only 9 I think... THe only real reason I'm thinking of getting these are because my BigCat isn't the most accurate after 25 yards anymore, and the CPHP's are really starting to get under my skin right now
Could you kindly explain your observation about your Big Cat being not accurate after 25 yards? It caught my curiosity. :confused:

I don't know myself, it's got me puzzled as well.... I'm getting good groups out to 25 yards, after that the groups look like I was trying to shoot a pcp with all the pellets under the sun mixed together at 50 yards on a windy day... Best way that I can put it to you.... Here I'll put some pictures up for you to see, each block is 1 inch....So thats 4 inches up-down and 3 inches left-right

I don't know if this idea would work on you bro', but have you tried testing your Big Cat on a leveled rifle rest that has a slippery bottom guide? The idea there is to limit the muzzle jump of the springer by letting the gun "glide" on the rest on a back and front movement only. That means that also need to keep the butt of the Big Cat rest on a slippery guide and keep everything intact without any side to side movement. If this thing works then that means your big cat is still good. If not then maybe these 2 things are affecting your airgun:
1. Your piston spring is canted causing some unwanted contact with the receiving tube that affects the muzzle to point at different directions when fired. Of course we know that the longer the distance is the more the deflection of the pellet is magnified. If you're using an open-palm hold and the Big Cat seems to jump then maybe your spring is really doing a lot of excursion inside. Do you still have the stock top hat and rear guide or did you install a custom delrin parts for it?
2. Perhaps you could still try to find what other type of pellet would give you a better downrange accuracy that you want. It might be that it doesn't like the CPHP anymore and maybe a heavier pellet would be a better choice.
All of this are just an idea so I don't know if it can work on your case or not.

Yeah I'm guessing that that is all stock. I'm not to into tuning and all this other stuff quite yet.... All that I know is that it's a stock BigCat except for the barrel length of course the crown, everything else is stock, even the trigger... I think I will take Craig's Pro-tune for my BC when I get enough points for it, depending on how much it will cost to ship it and everything that is wrong with it... maybe my springer was having a bad day or something,,, I'm going out right now again to test some more

The integrity of the crown is also a big issue on accuracy. If it is not perpendicular to the bore of the barrel the compressed air can leak on that very small gap between the pellet skirt and the bore and that could push the pellet in different directions when fired. Why don't you try to find a gunsmith that can work on your crown as an alternative first? I'm just not so sure if the barrel together with the breech can be easily taken out on a Gamo 'coz I heard that it is really a pain to disengage that pivoting screw on the breech lock.
A machinist can easily square that end of the barrel for you in no time and can even do a recrowning quite nice. In my case I just use a small cabinet corner brace (clamped to the barrel) to guide me when I cut the barrel of my G-1 and used a bastard file, a 220 and 400 grit sandpaper to clean the cut and square it. The cabinet brace is somewhat similar to what Larry Potterfield of MidwayUSA used but it is a lot cheaper. Here is the recrowning video of Larry Potterfield:

See what I used was some metal pipping that I put over the barrel, and cut down to size, So its a stright cut,,, I then cocked the gun, and used a wall for the parrell, along with the bubble on the back of the drill.
Perhaps you can counter-check the squareness of your crown using a known "true" 90 degree guide like a T-square. The wall/level approach... i have a small doubt about the squareness of the idea (I hope you are not offended my friend).
This is how I did it on my G-1. The barrel used for the pic is the leftover barrel and the corner brace shown is not the one I used. I used a new corner brace which is worth about $1.12 on a local hardware. Just for clarification.

See I'm not the biggest fan of putting a barrel a vise like that, I don't know why, I'm just not... But hey it's shooting good out to 25 yards, Thats all that I really need, As long as it still can take down the feeder raiding squirrels at 10 yards.... I might try and make a getto spring surpressure and see how bad the insides are,,, But my biggest fear in that is not getting the spring back in right
I've used a neoprene rubber to protect the true barrel during cutting. On the picture the leftover portion of the barrel was just taped just to show you how I squared the guide to the barrel.
As long as you're ok with the performance of your Big Cat then that is all that is important. Good luck on your future tune with it then. :thumb:

Based on the groups in your pics, you are getting vertical stringing. This is due to a velocity variation or a hold variation. Make sure you are holding your gun exactly the same each time you shoot. If you are shooting from a rest, make sure that the rest contacts the stock at exactly the same point for each shot. Any variation in placement on the rest will cause a variation in point of impact. Spriingers are inherently very accurate, but at the same time are very difficult to shoot well, due to the vibration and movement of internal parts.

I have trouble also shooting from a rest with my HW35, getting mostly vertical stringing. I have a Caldwell rest with rabbit ear sandbags. I quit using it for my rifle, and instead shoot from the bench, supporting the rifle with my elbows resting on the bench top. It works good enough for most purposes I need. I even found that there is even a different point of impact between offhand and field sitting positions. Sitting is about 2 inches higher at 30 yards. All groups are still good. I am using the HW match aperture sight. Maybe the sight has something to do with it. An optometric delusion!
The pellets are a blatant ripoff of the Predators which is just one more reason people are upset with Gamo. Many are refusing to buy them and as a result I haven't read any reviews.
The vertical shot string could be a worn out or damaged piston seal causing FPS variations.
Accuracy will fall off as the barrel gets too dirty with lead fouling especially with the harder Crosman pellets. I like J&B bore cleaner with a nylon brush (no bronze!) at least 20 strokes and then clean out with a mop followed by patches with weed wacker line.
GB, try the basic artillery hold, light in the shoulder, light grip, and open palm rest just ahead of the trigger guard regardless of your position. It works for most hold sensitive guns.

I know that it isn't the barrel, becuse I am notorious for cleaning my barrels. I don't care if it's my 30-06, shotgun, or pelletgun,after everyday of shooting I will clean the barrel.....I also find that that artillery hold works quite good on my BigCat also.. As mention my virtical stringing probably does come from a damaged seal.. I noticed that a while ago, like back in April when I was shooting 1/2 inch ply wood and noticed that some my 40 yard shots were going though my plywood, but a couple of my 30 yard shots would and a couple of them would not
