scope troubles

well i have had this happen on rimfire rifles where the scope would not give enough elevation to bring the poi up to the x ring it is shooting about 2-3 inches low and i'm out of adjustment . :eek:

now here is the funky part the week before the weather was nice when i got my gun and put it all together .
my set up is as follows a browning leverage with a 3-9 center point scope and weaver rings the back ring seemd to have some sort of tape in the bottom half of the ring i figured it was to help keep the scope from sliding and after putting it all together and sighted in shot maybe 150 pellets since no problem then i cleaned the barrell with a patch no addatives just pushed patch through and also took the stock off as i have never had one of these before so i removed the stock just to see what i could see wiped with oil and put back together and hand snugged all the screws and put it in the cabinet . :nod:

fast forward to yesterday i had a little time and got the gun out to try a few shots with a differant pellet and thought whow these hit really low so went back to my crosman domes and it still remained low so i tried to bring it up and volia i run out of adjustment . :twitch::twitch::twitch:

so guess my question is what would make it change point of impact by removing the stock , i checked the mounts and all is tight but i did notice that the goo stuff under the scope on the rear ring seems to have squashed out on the front and back of the ring . :eek::eek::eek:

when i had to shim a scope i always used a aluminum can sliver to shim the scope and they would stay i am figuring tha this is my problem but wanted to get another opinion before i wasted some time cutting fitting and trying . but may just have to lol.:cheers:

Sounds like it could be barrel droop, but could also be because the tape has been worn down on the rear ring and not the front. I bet it is a combination. Slight shimming should fix it, just don't overdo it or you risk bending the scope tube.

is there a spike under one of the mounts messing up the alignment?

nope no spike i am still leaning twards the goo under the scope inside the rear ring that has pushed /mashed out .
i may get into it this evening and get a closer look but i believe that is it like i said it was fine for a few days that i shot it then it set for abt a week now wamo kablewy not a winner lol.

if i get the ole girl tore apart this evening ill let ya's know what i find i would take some pics but only camara that i have is my phone not the best quality

i'm sure it is a small simple fix .

What you have described is a classic problem, a lot of break barrel guns, have a certain amount of barrel "droop" and if you look at the scope mounts on Pyramid Air some of them are designed to compensate for that. An easy fix is to shim under the scope on the rear mount, (scope ring). This is a problem with fire arms as well.

If you have access to some brass shim stock this is a good choice, softer materials tend to compress over time. I have always been of the opinion that break barrels would be more consistent if you mounted a long eye relief scope on the breech at the point where the rear Iron/open sight goes.

Another thought is that you may need to check your breech seal, if it is too high you will end up with groups that are either low or display vertical stringing.

Springers have their own problems, but they can be over come and I feel that the rewards are worth the effort. If you can shoot a springer with good result, you can shoot anything. ... J

is the breach closing up tight?

as far as i can tell the breach is closing tight as this is my first air rifle and it is a browning leverage so it is a under lever. which is kinda the reason that i got it after reading some of the posts about barrel droop i figured a fixed barrel under lever would not experiance this as fast as a break barrel would .

and i have had this happen on several occations with rimfire rifles when trying to get a larger scope fit and sighted in i shot bench rest rimfire for several years.

well all was takin care of with a few well placed slivers of a buweiser can side i put 3 peices under the scope and brought it back up where i just had to adjust a little bit but would still need some more adjust ment.

another thing that i noticed is that on the rear ring there was a rubber shim ( why rubber is beyond me ) but when i secured the scope it after a short time it squished out from under the scope enough that i could wiggle the rear ring top .
but also when i removed them i noticed that the front ring also has some material under it like a smaller patch of plastic but not as thick as was on the back one .

but none the less all was fixed for now and let the games begin .
