Help !

My Crosman Phantom just killed scope number three , a Bushnell Sportview , a Tech Force heavy duty hunter , and a Leapers UTG . All were 4x32 mounted with a one piece 4 screw airgun mount . Is anyone having problems with the Phantom ? I wonder if the gun being just 6.2 pounds has anything to do with it . It shoots fine with the factory sights , but these old eyes of mine need help on small targets. ------------------------------------Good Shooting to all ---- Papa Smurf

I've certainly heard of springers trashing scopes, but 3 in a row seems extreme. Perhaps the best place to ask your question would be to call Crosman. Their customer service is said to be excellent. Big bummer. RC

That is extreme. I agree, start with a call to Crosman just to see what they say.

Your Bushnell Sportview is rated for as a medium too heavy recoil air gun ???

But there can always be a bad scope in the store, I have had it happen to me !

Now if you are shooting off a rest, with very minimal contact with the air rifle, this can cause more recoil to transfer to the scope ?????

I hold firm but lightly, with light contact on the forend, and snugly to my shoulder, with my hand lightly around the grip ? This adsorbs some of the air rifles recoil. Holding too loosely, almost not holding the air rifle at all, may be causing the problem.

Now I have never fired a Crosman Phantom, but I have never heard of one shooting so hard as to be damaging to air gun rated scopes ???

Another possibility is if you have a bad seal and the compression piston is slamming very hard ???

But you say it shoots well, and that does not sound like a seal problem...

Papa Smurf Help update; Crosman (nice people) said nothing wrong with the rifle , and if things continue to try their Centerpoint as they are 100% backed by Crosman. Next I called Pyramyd Air and a new scope is on the way , no charge , no shipping , and were very sorry for my trouble . As my great grandson says, Pyramid Air ROCKS ! They also said they never had trouble with that Leapers model but every now and then there may be a lemon with any brand. Curiosity lurks... when a springer "kills" a scope, what is/are the symptom(s)? Objective/ocular lens pops out, reticle goes missing, spontaneous combustion?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I had one go bad after 1 shot, and the symptoms were a loose vertical reticle and it was impossible to focus at any distance. I hope other's can give us more info. For the record, and although they did replace it, OpticsPlanet took 2 weeks to process the return after they'd received the scope from me. Too long for me to want to buy from them again. RC

Papa Smurf AGAIN ? My scope would not allways move point of impact , and when it did , it was to the opposite directed . In other words up was down and left moved point of impact to the right. And finally point of impact would not move at all . Real Bummer (great grandson again) . ------------ Good Shooting to all ------ Papa
