Did I get a lemon?

I just posted this in the general airgun forum but now I realized I should have posted it here, sorry about that guys.

So yesterday I got in my Hawke sport HD 3-9x40mm and I mounted it on my Hatsan 125th. It's magnum rated so hopefully my gun didn't just kill it. Anyway I just got back inside after a hour or so out at the bench rest trying to dial the thing in.

So first i get the elevation dialed in, good no problem. Next I go to fix the windage, good no problem. Finally I go to shoot a couple more shots to make sure I'm good, nope elevation drops about an inch or two. Okay Ill fix the elevation, good no problem. I'm thinking now I got this I can drive nails now, I shoot a couple more shots and I'm good. Alright lets see how tight I can get these groups, I shoot a couple shots and they go everywhere windage and elevation just go all over the place.

So what do you guys think happened? Did my gun just kill the scope? Did I get a lemon? Or did I move the elevation and windage to much so now the tube is just inside bouncing around?

What should I do, try again tomorrow, or just send it back and try for another?

The parallax was set a 30 feet and I was sitting at my 10 yard bench rest, this was not changed at any point while I was shooting.

If, when you place the rifle on a rest without touching it, you look through the scope and move your head up and down, side to side, does the crosshair move, or does it remain on target? RC

The black dot on my target is about a quarter of an inch and when I move my head the cross hair moves some but it doesn't get out of the black dot.

I don't think it has anything to do with moving the adjustments, but whether or not you got a bad one, or recoil ruined it, your best choice might be to send it back. If the next one does the same thing, then there's something else happening. RC

I think ill try to dial it in again today and if I can't get it, I'll just send it back.

Did you buy the non-AO version? RC

Would be even better if it worked. Well I just got in from the bench again and POI is everywhere and it definitely isn't me, so I will package it up later tonight and send it back for a new one tomorrow. I am kinda saddened right now, this is the third magnum rated scope my hatsan 125 has officially killed :( Oh well, hopefully the next one works and if not I suppose I will try a different scope or brand.

You may want to check out the Tech Force scopes. They're made explicitly for springers. I've had excellent results from them. RC

I will definitely look into adding one of them to my collection. What one or ones do you have and what is the optical quality like? Do you have any other brand scopes you could compare them to, if so please share.

I got a Hammers 3-9x40AO today from Steve Archer which I mounted on my Hatsan Another superb no-name scope that I'm very pleased with. I use 3 Tech Force 3-9x scopes (about $55 from PA). They compare to the Leapers, but with a thinner reticle. All are on springers, and I've had zero problems, and they hold their settings session after session. Very clear and sharp optics, and you won't need a coin to adjust them. RC

Well if this next hawke that comes in doesn't work out I will consider a tech force or a leapers.

I've had good luck with the BSA Essential Air 3-12x44 scopes on magnum air rifles.I've been playing with one of the Hammers scopes mentioned above on a Webley Valuemax .20 cal.When I received it the adjustments on the the scope were pretty much maxed out in elevation and windage.I tried it with the mounts it came with.It wasn't holding zero in elevation probably because the elevation adjustment was maxed out.I switched to a RWS anti droop mount and I appear to be OK.The windage knob appears to be cranked way to one side pretty much as I received it.I will shoot it and see what happens.I personally would not buy another Hammers scope until I put a lot of rounds through the gun I have it mounted on.Either QC was lacking at the factory or this scope was sold previously and returned to the seller.

Mine should be here by the middle of the week, hopefully this one holds up.
